A good turnout this morning with 11 starters, considering at least 5 regulars had other commitments. We welcomed Mark Robinson, Nick Robinson’s brother on holiday from Germany sailing #40. Another pleasant surprise was long term member Rob Turton who is still recovering from his epic trip to Queensland looking remarkably dapper and sun tanned, alas without his 95.
We are fortunate to have Bev Swanson and Ann Morris acting as starters and scorers which is a huge plus, thanks ladies. Ron Viney set the SW’ly course with buoy boat ably assisted by Bev and Barry Glazier.
We managed 9 two lap races with the usual break after each set of 3 races. The 2 minute start with a call of "boats on the water" is working really well giving time for a quick adjustment between races if necessary.
Individual winners were, the brilliant Ron Viney with 5 wins and 1st place overall, suffering no ill effects of the weekends sailing the States in Albany, well done Ron. Barry Glazier was unfortunate to be on the wrong end of a couple of bingles through no fault of his own but still had 2 wins and 2nd overall, well done Barry. Hon. Sec 1 win only because Ron missed the start due to ….well we won’t say why, but they do go better when they are switched on…????. But I think we all agreed that the best win was Ross Swanson’s in race 6, Ross was sailing really consistently well (must have been practicing) and only missed 3rd spot by 2 pts….very well done Ross.
The scores don’t show how close some of the finishes were, with all the fleet finishing within a minute or so.
Pennants courtesy of Guy Skinner were presented to the place getters with the usual accolades and comments.
Thanks everyone again for a great morning sailing, and for taking all the gear up to the trailer which certainly helps.
