The weather looked bleak before the start of racing this morning with dark threatening clouds with just a hint of precipitation and a chill wind. Commodore Kim Swarbrick and his assistants had their work cut out setting a sailable course, having to virtually move all the buoys 10 minutes before the scheduled start, but sterling work on their part got the fleet of 13 yachts off by 0945….well done Team 1.
We did manage 8 races with one race starting in the reverse direction to all the others, which did baffle some as to "which is the gate" and “ is this the finish”. Some great close racing and it’s really pleasing to see some of our newer and not so new sailors clawing their way up the score board. My apologies if I miss you out for a mention but Susan Hughes did well in race 3 with a 9th in trying conditions. Arnold Martin with a 7th in race 7 did remarkably well steering from his gopher..well done Arnold. Ross Swanson is just getting better and better with a fine set of numbers including three 4th placings and a creditable 6th overall, well done Ross. Russell Dawes with a 5th overall and a great 2nd place in race 6 is showing some excellent promise.
The place getters today were really in a class of their own with Commodore Kim Swarbrick taking out the 3rd place pennant on nett 17 pts, with the ever consistent Barry Glazier taking out 2nd place with 13 pts, but way out in front with a nett 6 pts dropping a 1st and a 2nd place was the maestro himself and all round good bloke …Nick Jerwood. Well done everyone, a great morning sailing with the best of company…..who could ask for more.
Our sincere thanks once again to scorers/starters Bev Swanson and Ann Morris making life that much easier for the running of the racing and especially for the PRO.
