Another good turnout this morning with 9 DF 65s on the water. Fred Schoch was down earlier practicing with his 95 with daughter Sam, but had to leave before our scheduled start for pressing matters at the beach.
Good to have Bruce Robins sailing with us coming down from Perth and fighting the traffic. V/C Graham O’Hehir was showing off his brand new 65 with very fancy pink trimmed Jerwood sails.
Tricky conditions as usual with wind shifting SE to SW from almost zero to 10kts in short gusts, keeping everyone on their toes. There were only 3 race winners today with Ron Viney claiming 3 wins for nett 10 pts, closely followed by Barry Glazier also with 3 wins and nett 12pts for 2nd place overall. Commodore Kim edged out V/C Graham on countback for 3rd spot with nett 22pts which is a great result for Graham with his brand new boat. Garry Goodall was pretty consistent with 2nds and 3rds, ending up just one point behind in 5th place. The gusting shifty zephyrs caught more than a couple of us out on the finish line with boats either missing the finish or collecting the buoy putting a potential 2nd or 3rd placing back to 7th or 8th or worse.
We are using just 4 buoys more and more with the smaller fleets, having the start line also acting as the downwind gate and the windward and offset buoys acting as the finish. This gives us 3 really good long beats, the scorers Ann Morris and Bev Swanson doing a great job being up at the windward/finishing buoys. Bev is now putting the finishers into the “Afleet” programme in the Samsung tablet well done Bev.
Commodore Kim Swarbrick was PRO with Ron Viney, Bev Swanson and Lewis Arndt assisting with laying the course with "buoy boat”…..thanks everyone.
Pennants courtesy of Guy Skinner were presented to the place getters with the usual accolades and comments.
Kim Klaka kindly volunteered to write up a report on our great weekend at Bettenays Winery, and we have posted that report on our web page.
