The wind gods were certainly having a playful day since the forecast was for WSW’ly winds, it never got past SSE, which made setting a decent course quite difficult as up to the start time at 0930 we reckoned the wind had clocked every point of the compass. Consequently, most of the racing was reaching with frequent 180 changes in wind direction. In fact half the races started in a Northerly direction and the other half in a Southerly.
Now this caused some confusion for those who couldn’t remember if the buoy they were approaching was a gate or a windward mark.
We had 8 starters for the first race but Lewis had rudder problems almost immediately and did some fine rescue work with “buoy boat” to retrieve #65….unfortunately he couldn’t sail anymore. In race 2 V/C Graham had winch problems pulling out the turning block in the aft well. So we were down to 6 starters for the remaining 8 races.
Without a doubt it was Barry Glaziers day with a tremendous 7 wins dropping a 2nd and 5th place. Very well done Barry. Ross Swanson was showing some great starting tactics and speed with 2 great wins. These 2 wins are becoming a regular habit for Ross…well done.
Mike Wall had a win and we shall soon be losing him to Albany RSC as he will be moving there in mid January. We wish him well with his new club as they say “our loss but their gain”. Good Luck Mike.
Although Janet didn’t get a win she had an amazing 4 seconds and 3 thirds to take out 3 place missing out on 2nd by a hairs breath to Mike.
A very big thank you to everyone with the setting of the course and putting up the club house (Gazebo), to Ann and Bev for the starts and scoring. It makes a huge difference having you both there.
