PRO: Lewis Arndt
Well, 14 sailors and our intrepid start crew Bev and Ann braved the interesting forecast which said NE turning SW by 2pm.
To try and accommodate that forecast (term used lightly) we decided to continue the theme of operating within a Gated Community i.e. a gate at the top mark and another gate at the bottom mark. The thinking was that we could reverse the course when the BOM forecast came to fruition. Too easy!
Well, we started Race 1 with everyone charging to the NE gate. By the middle of the race the wind had clocked to SE (along the start line) and by the end of the race it was SW.
So we started the next race charging to the SW gate. During that race the pattern reversed and went through SE to NE and back to SW and kind of stayed there... kind of..... So we persisted with the starts heading to the SW gate for the rest of the day. However I am sure everyone noticed that the wind continued to cycle through 180 degrees all day. This resulted in a variety of up winds that should have been down winds and vice versa and of course in the middle no winds.
These conditions reminded me of an old saying (Claire Cook)... "If plan A doesn't work, the alphabet has 25 more letters - 24 if you are in Japan"
Looking at the podium results I guess 1st Nick J, 2nd Nick R and 3rd Ron V had plenty of plans..... they may even be bilingual...
Competition in the rest of the fleet was tight as always with a countback and several 1 point separations...well done everyone.
It was good to see some dodgy humour finding its way into the on water serious stuff....... resulting in a good day on the lake ????
Thanks to everyone who helped transport the gear, setup and packed up, called the starts and finishes and kept the RO on track.....kind of.... ????
Special thanks to Kim K for the chocolates...... ???? ...... I wonder who is next ???
Special thanks to Graham O for swapping the RO date for me today.
