Wanderers DF95 Race Report – 19 May 2026

Another enjoyable afternoon of DF95 racing at Wanderers saw a fleet of 14 skippers line up for seven races, with conditions providing plenty of challenges and ensuring there was action right through the fleet.

From the first race it was clear that consistency would be the key to success. Wind shifts and changing pressure rewarded those who could stay in phase and recover quickly when things didn’t quite go to plan.

Leading the way was Nick J who put together an excellent series to take out the day with 10 points, showing impressive consistency with four race wins and never straying far from the front of the fleet. Janet J also sailed a strong regatta, finishing on 14 points to secure second place, while Graham O rounded out the podium in third on 21 points after a steady performance across the series.

The racing through the middle of the fleet was tight, with plenty of position changes and several skippers recording strong individual race results. Brian S finished in fourth place after making the trip from Albany, while Keith M took fifth after battling hard throughout the day.

Further down the order, there were plenty of moments where fortunes changed quickly — a good start could become a difficult beat, while a poor opening lap could suddenly become a recovery race with smart sailing.

A big thank you once again to Ann M and Bev S for managing the starts, finishes and scoring throughout the day — your efforts are greatly appreciated. Also a big thanks to Bev for helping with setting the course which was very difficult to set.

As always, the racing was competitive, the company was good, and there was no shortage of post-race discussions explaining exactly how “that shift came out of nowhere” and “it all looked good until the top mark.”
