Wet Wanderers wrestle wafting wind
A bit damp at times this afternoon but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the original 9 starters. BoM were not far out with their prediction of 10-15kts from the SW for the 1 pm start. There were some discussion of whether it would be “B” rig but the smart money was on the “A” rig, as after the squalls came the calms.
As the afternoon wore on so the breeze lightened and lightened which created many opportunities to gain places or conversely to lose places.
Thanks to Wayne Coleman and Alan Whalley we managed to set a pretty good and fair course with a decent 12m start line and a windward offset buoy. We also managed to set a leeward gate which some used to their advantage. We can now pretty well set the buoy pattern where we like by having sinking lines attached to the pairs of buoys across the lake.
Alan Whalley was an early retirement and kindly did the starts and scoring which is a huge help….thanks again Alan. Unfortunately Kim Swarbrick had some electrical failure and didn’t sail the last 2 races so took over from Alan as scorer.
If you have done any offshore fishing you will know the acronym FAD…Fish Attracting Device….I am now going to call our buoys YAD’s….Yacht Attracting Devices….a number of our racers today managed to attack and get get caught on my poor buoys who did nothing but sit there quietly. One illustrious member who shall be nameless swiped the flag off the windward mark never to be seen again…the flag that is, not the Commodore…..oh and that was before the start of racing.
But now to the results…..In 1st place with 3 wins and very consistent sailing for 13 points was Kim (I didn’t see the flag) Klaka. Well done Kim. Wayne Coleman with 16 points and 2 wins came 2nd. Good to see Guy Skinner sailing really well will with a win and just 1 point behind Wayne for 3rd place. Other race winners were Kim Swarbrick and Barry Glazier. Well done everyone. Full results below.
Thanks again to all for helping retrieve the YAD’s…..
