Tuesday Afternoon DF 95s

Tuesday Afternoon DF 95s

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon with  N to NW’ly  zephyrs creating a bit of a challenge for the 9 sailors.  The  12m start line was set in the SE end of the pond so we could get a decent windward leg.  A leeward buoy was placed some 20 mts further SE of the start line and the finishing line was nominated as a line between the windward mark and our wind vane on one of the posts  of the lake.  It may sound awkward but it worked pretty well considering the conditions. We managed 8 races allowing for 2 drops.  Our new “Boom Box” worked really well except on occasions starting at 30 seconds causing a bit of panic for some.  But some judicial finger pushing on the buttons gave everyone a fair 1 minute start.
The starts were again a bit hit and miss, with barging on the line ….did everyone read Commodore Kim’s quiz # 7  methinks not.  To be fair though the line was a fair way away, Kim  K had the right idea in staying over that side of the pond and had a good close view of the line.  He did call 4 boats over in one race  but obviously his voice didn’t carry as no one restarted……tut tut.

It was good to welcome Colin Jones from Austin Lakes with his brand new 95.  Talking of new 95’s soon to be member Andy White has just got his and will be joining us when he moves up to Bicton at the end of the month.
Another of our members John Holder got his new 95 in the post today and came down to get some hot tips from his long time friend Ron Viney.

Now to the results, once again Ron Viney claimed gold with 4 wins and 2 seconds for 8 points  ably assisted in at least one race by John Holder who got a second well done both of you.
Ron didn’t get it all his own way though,  as Commodore Kim with 3 wins and 3 seconds ended up only 1 point behind with 9 points.  In third place and I had to check the score sheet was the secretary with 20 points.
Well done everyone.  Kim Swarbrick managed a late run and a win in race 8,  well done Kim.

A few of our regulars will be missing for a while as they head for warmer weather….Brian Schneider off to Broome, Michael Hunt to Denham I believe and Kim Klaka to the UK until early September.  Kim will be competing in the UK Nationals for the DF 95’s so we wish him well.
